Then and now

I am a pretty open book when it comes to my life and my business is a part of that. I have been working as a freelance illustrator and artist for the past 10 years and I’ve learnt a heck of a lot along the way – a lot of the time by making mistakes.

The reasons why I chose to work for myself and run a business have changed along the way. When I started I was a pretty anxious little bundle, I didn’t want to work for anyone else because I hated the idea of making mistakes and being responsible for someone else’s investment. Working for myself I only had me to answer to.. not the best motivation I admit! I’m happy to say that has changed!

My reason transformed when I had my babies and became a mother. My business became about reconnecting with a different part of myself, taking time for me and maintaining a link to who I was before I had kids.

Interestingly my ‘why’ now links back to an artwork I created in my anxious bundle early days. To The Trees was the title of one of the first illustrations I created when I started out as a freelance illustrator in 2012. It depicts a person walking away from a city full of pollution and towards the trees. It is symbolic of the values that are so important to me in my personal and business life.

My goal now is to create work and products that inspire connection and love for the earth and for each other. I want to create a business that celebrates our natural world and respects the earth at the same time. I am a different person to who I was 10 years ago and I’m so happy for that transformation and I’m sure for the many more to come! I want to be able to support my family this way and with the flexibility provided by running my own business I want to spend more time with my family, the earth and learn to live more lightly from both of those! I’m learning more about how to

Flashback to being at the markets with my 8 month old. I love this photo because I can see who I was then and who I am now. I can see the growth and the why so clearly – community, my family, celebrating the earth. I’ll keep growing, learning and trying and update you as I go!
